To celebrate their inaugural year of bringing the world's greatest short films to Monterey County, the Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series announces its Gala Finale on Thursday, September 6th, at the Independent Marketplace, 600 Ortiz Ave., in Sand City.
This event is by donation, but seating is limited - reserve your spot today!!
About the Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series
This series is one of the most innovative and acclaimed gathering of short films in the world, and its esteemed jury includes Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Kirsten Dunst, and Oscar winner Vilmos Zsigmond.
Beginning in 2011, the selection committee, led by Series director (and Henry Miller Memorial Library Executive Director) Magnus Toren received over 1,000 submissions from over 40 countries. Over the course of six months they whittled the field down to the 50 best films.
And now, the aforementioned jury has the final word, selecting the greatest five films out of 50 -- "best of the best" -- to be screened on the 6th at the Independent Marketplace.
The Series wrapped up it's seventh year of showing films in Big Sur at the Henry Miller Library; this summer marked the first time it ventured north, having screened films at the The Historic Forest Theater in Carmel-By-The-Sea and the Museum of Monterey.
About the Independent Marketplace and the September 6th Event
In its first year, the Independent Marketplace brings the area's finest restaurants, artists, and vendors to Sand City on the first Thursday of the month. Part farmer's market, part arts and crafts fair, part street party (though it's indoors), the Marketplace is like your first child: you never knew you had a void inside of you until you actually had one.
How'd we live so long without the Independent Marketplace?

In addition to short films, Sept. 6th will feature include live music plus a locally-shot "adventure film" featuring the notorious (and mysterious) "Hippie Sven."
The Independent Marketplace will open its doors at 4 pm.
At 7 pm, Big Sur's ragtag band of misfits Songs Hotbox Harry Taught Us take the stage for a 45 minute set of classic country tunes.
And then, at 8 pm, the movies!
